Fullerton’s Elementary Schools deserve a Board Member who both represents and respects the diversity in our community. As a lifelong educator, a mother to two daughters, and a proud Fullerton resident who has dedicated my career to public education, I will bring a fresh voice to our School Board.
I’m a professor at Cal State University of Fullerton and I live in Downtown Fullerton – my life is here. My girls attend our public schools, and the college students I teach in my class are often graduates from Fullerton’s K-8 District schools. My career as an educator has focused on equal access to healthcare for low-income children, and public health policies such as the CSU Fullerton on-campus smoking ban.
As a parent, I have always volunteered in the classroom, from reading a favorite book to first-graders to helping my Latina/Jewish daughters teach their classmates about their dual cultural heritages. Since joining CSUF in 2015, I have focused on educating our local junior high girls about future career options in science and math, and what they can do now to increase their readiness for college.
As your School Board member, I will bring my passion for and expertise in public education, my dedication to public service, and my multicultural perspective to the Fullerton K-8 School Board. I hope you will join our campaign and send Shana Charles to the Fullerton School Board.
